Breeze Li

When I turn inwardly, the sun slants, the external light gradually shifts and the internal light stays and stares.

What is our position in this world and where are we going? These questions feel so close to the self that the only language to express it is an oblique one. I ask my paintings, as someone standing on the horizon of earth, gazing in and out.

I find my being as a path among the hay. I feel for the water that dissolves into air, then falls and ripples. I nod to the tower proudly built yet precariously standing. I sit with the crumbling bricks in anticipation of being built.

Helena Anrather is pleased to announce a solo presentation by Breeze Li. The Sun Slants is on view from January 5th through February 4th, 2023. Breeze Li was born in 1996 in Chengdu, China and lives and works in New York. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2019 and from Columbia University in 2022. This is her first solo exhibition.
